Biography
I grew up in the Ottawa region, in Gatineau to be precise (Quebec, Canada), and did my undergraduate studies at the University of Sherbrooke, in the eastern townships of Quebec. I then went on to do my graduate studies in Molecular Pharmacology and Biochemistry in Montreal with Michel Bouvier, where I worked on G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) pharmacology, post-translational modifications, and cellular signaling. After graduation, I went to San Diego to the laboratory of Rick Firtel to do a post-doctoral fellowship in Cell Biology, where I worked with Dictyostelium as experimental model to study the directed migration of cells (chemotaxis). From there, I moved just to the neighboring state of Arizona, in Tucson, to start my independent research career at the University of Arizona in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in January of 2012. I was awarded Tenure in 2019 and moved my primary appointment to the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Although I do miss the snow a lot (and snowboarding!), the 350ish days of sun per year in Tucson more than make up for it! When I'm not having fun in the lab, I mostly spend quality time with my favorite men (husband Antonio and 2 boys Rafael and Xavier). When I can, I also enjoy a good bike ride (which is perfect in Tucson, where one can bike all year long!), hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing (which are also great in Tucson, which is surrounded by mountains with great rock!). And I can always find snow in Flagstaff for a quick snowboarding trip!
